A Behind-the-Scenes Look at CamoVets on the Shop Jersey Shore Podcast

We recently had the opportunity to join Lisa Mazzuca on the Shop Jersey Shore Podcast to talk about what we do at CamoVets, why we built this company, and how we help homeowners, businesses, and contractors across Ocean County and Monmouth County NJ with junk removal, roof cleaning, and exterior washing.

Who we are and why we started CamoVets

CamoVets was founded by Jim Marchioni, a Marine Corps veteran (infantry, 1983–1986). The idea behind our company has always been simple: build a reliable, service-first business that takes care of customers while creating job opportunities for veterans and military families.

We started our business more than a decade ago, first focusing on exterior cleaning. As we grew, we added services that our customers needed most, including junk removal once we completed New Jersey’s required licensing (A901). Today, we’ve been operating for about 11 years, with our junk removal division running for about four years.

We’re proud that our team includes veterans and people connected to the military community, and we do everything we can to support workers who are transitioning, going back to school, or simply looking for steady work with a good crew.

What we do

Our work falls into two main categories: junk removal (including cleanouts and light demolition) and exterior cleaning (including soft washing, power washing, and roof cleaning). We handle both residential and commercial jobs, and we’re fully insured. We help with everything from a single item pickup to full-property cleanouts.

Common calls include:

  • Moving cleanouts and estate cleanouts
  • Garage, attic, and basement cleanouts
  • Appliance removal (including old refrigerators)
  • Hoarding situations
  • Storage units and rental property turnovers
  • Construction debris removal for contractors and builders

In most cases, we can give you a ballpark estimate over the phone. For larger jobs like a full house cleanout, we’ll schedule a time to come out, take a look, and provide an on-site estimate. When our truck arrives, we confirm the scope and provide a no-obligation quote before we load anything. If you approve it, we take care of all the lifting, loading, hauling, and disposal.

We remove most household and jobsite items, but we do not take hazardous chemicals or hazmat materials.

Light demolition and removal of “big stuff”

Some items are difficult to remove without the right equipment and experience. We can help with:

  • Shed, deck, and fence demolition and haul-away
  • Hot tub removal
  • Bulk furniture removal

Donation and recycling whenever possible

When items are in good shape, we do our best to keep them out of the landfill. As we load, we separate donatable items when appropriate and bring them to local donation centers whenever they meet acceptance guidelines. It’s part of how we try to serve the community and reduce waste.

Soft wash vs. power wash: cleaning the right way

One of the biggest points we shared on the podcast is that “power washing” isn’t one-size-fits-all. For homes and roofs, the safest and most effective method is usually soft washing. Soft washing uses a professional-grade cleaning solution to kill mold, mildew, and organic growth, then rinses it away without forcing high pressure into siding, shingles, or wood.

We use higher pressure only where it makes sense, typically on hard surfaces like concrete or pavers.

A quick note that’s worth repeating: never power wash a roof. High pressure can damage shingles and remove protective grit, shortening the life of your roof.

Roof cleaning: what to expect and why follow-up matters

We always soft wash roofs. If you’re dealing with black streaks, moss, or other growth, roof cleaning can make a huge difference, but it’s important to understand the timeline:

  • If it’s mostly black streaking, results can be visible quickly.
  • If there’s heavier plant growth, the growth dies first, then gradually breaks down over the next 60–90 days.

That’s why our process includes follow-up. We come back, reinspect, and make sure the roof is cleaning up properly, especially for shaded areas where debris and growth can linger.

Landscaping protection during exterior cleaning

We take landscaping seriously. Our solutions are designed to eliminate organic growth, so we protect your plants by watering before, during, and after service, and we actively manage overspray during application. In the rare case a plant reacts, we work with the homeowner to make it right.

Who we serve and where we work

We work with:

  • Homeowners
  • Realtors and property managers
  • Contractors and builders
  • Commercial properties

Our current service area includes Ocean County and Monmouth County, with plans to expand further.
